Auggie & Chappy:
A Sunset Farewell at Front Range Show Stables
There are some sessions that just stay with you—and this one with Auggie and her horse, Chappy, is definitely one of them. As the sun dipped below the Colorado horizon, we found ourselves wrapped in soft golden light at the stunning Front Range Show Stables in Erie, just outside of Boulder. It was the perfect setting for a heartfelt equine portrait session.
Auggie is about to start an exciting new chapter as she heads off to college, and she wanted to capture the special bond she shares with Chappy before the big transition. The connection between them is unmistakable—gentle, loyal, and full of trust. Watching them together made it easy to see that this wasn’t just a photoshoot; it was a goodbye, a thank-you, and a keepsake rolled into one.
In addition to the outdoor portraits during golden hour, we also created classic black background portraits of Chappy. These timeless images really highlight his presence, strength, and calm nature—and they offer a beautiful contrast to the soft, emotional feel of the sunset shots. They’re the kind of portraits that look amazing framed, printed large, or featured in an heirloom album.
Chappy was a total gentleman throughout the session, posing like a pro and even sneaking a few affectionate nuzzles. The evening gave us ideal conditions for photography—warm tones, soft shadows, and that quiet calm that only a Colorado sunset can bring.
From candid moments to quiet portraits, every frame told a story of companionship and love. These are the kinds of images that go beyond memory—they become legacy.
Auggie, thank you for trusting me to document this bittersweet and beautiful moment in your life. I know college will bring amazing things, and Chappy will be here waiting with open hooves (and maybe a few carrots).
If you're thinking about booking your own equine portrait session—whether to mark a milestone or simply celebrate the connection you share with your horse—I'd love to help you tell your story.
